Glazing

At Lee Kelly, we pride ourselves on supplying our customers with the best advice on all glazing solutions available. Glazing is a huge part of our business. The main questions asked by customers is on energy saving, safety, and security. We offer all three and much more. Low E energy efficient glazing amounts to over 90% of all our glazing supplied or installed.

All units can be toughened or laminated for security and safety. We also offer a full range of obscure glazing patterns with added privacy, and we supply single, double, triple, and laminated glass. Laminated glazing adds security, safety and helps with noise reduction. All our glass units are covered by a ten-year internal moisture failure guarantee (excluding encapsulated units). We offer a full replacement glazing service, this may be due to the breakdown, failure of the existing units or our customers may require upgrading their glazing to a more energy efficient glass and incorporate safety glazing without replacing the whole frame.

As well as our full range of standard glazing, we offer lead, colour and acid etch designs, Georgian bar, Astragal bar and a full encapsulating service. Encapsulating is the process where an original glass design pattern which you may have in your existing windows that you wish to keep, is then encapsulated into a double-glazed unit, in effect making it a triple glazed unit. Our expert glazer cleans and repairs, where possible, any damage on the glass before encapsulation takes place.

Whats is Low E Glass

Low E stands for 'low emissivity'. Low E glass is coated with invisible layers of metallic oxide. This coating allows natural light to enter the home whilst also deflecting UV rays and infrared light back out into the environment. That is important because UV rays are invisible rays of light which is emitted by the sun. UV rays can be responsible for fading of furniture, burning of skin, and over the course of time damage building materials. Infrared light is heat that warms your home during the winter. By deflecting both types of light back out into the environment, low-E coatings help keep your warm home in winter and cooler in the summer.

Low E coatings are not visible to the naked eye; however they are still reflective, just like the silver coating on the inside of a thermos flask. This reduces the emissivity of the glass and prevents certain types of light from entering or leaving the home.

Whats is a U Value?

Thermal transmittance, which is also known as u-value, is the measure of the insulating capacity of the glass. This represents how quickly heat from hot air (not direct sunlight) will pass through the glass. The lower the u-value the better the insulation.

Benefits of Triple Glazing

Triple glazed units have an optimised energy balance to maximise cost savings. Triple glazing allows an elevated level of solar heat gain, capturing free heat energy from outside during the daytime to warm the home. This is combined with exceptional thermal insulation properties with triple glazed units having an exceptionally low u-value to keep heat in during night and day. The thermal efficiency of triple glazed units ensures that cold spots are eliminated. Triple glazed units can also be optimised to delivery excellent thermal acoustic performance, minimising the noise levels from outside.

Warm Edge Spacer Technology

Up to 80% of energy loss through a window occurs at its edge. Warm edge products aim to minimise this energy loss. Warm edge technology refers to the edge construction of a double or triple glazed unit that conducts less heat or cold than traditional windows and standard construction glazed units. Standard glazed units or insulated glass sealed units are constructed with an aluminium spacer to hold the glass apart. However, aluminium is highly conductive and has an exceptionally high thermal energy loss.

Comparatively, double glazed windows fitted with warm edge spacer have a warmer internal edge temperature by up to 65% which helps to improve the thermal efficiency of the window and reduce the risk of condensation. Warm edge also significantly lowers the temperature differential between centre and edge of unit and up to 94% reduced heat loss (or heat gain) at the external edge of your window. While making a real contribution to the environment, this heat saving can help to reduce the heat consumption or air conditioning requirements of a home which lowers carbon emissions and saves money on energy bills.

Security Glazing

Security glass is normally laminated glass comprising two or more sheets of glass with one or more PVB interlayers. The whole assembly is bonded together using heat and pressure, resulting in the complete adhesion of the interlayer and glass. in the event of breakage, the glass fragments remain attached to the plastic interlayer and the window retains it's residual strength, while awaiting replacement. Laminated security glass can be positioned on the inner or outer pane of a double-glazing window but must be used with an appropriate framing system. Laminated glasses with distinct levels of safety and security can be obtained by varying the number and/or thickness of each of the glass and interlayer components.

Argon Gas

Argon gas is colourless and odourless and does not block light, so houseplants are not affected. It exists in the atmosphere, so supplies are plentiful. Argon gas is stable, inert and non-toxic. Long term studies show that a well-constructed gas filled window wills still have 80% of the gas trapped inside 20 years after installation. Argon gas increases the windows ability to insulate. It generates a warmer surface on the inside pane, eliminating or reducing condensation and increasing interior comfort. It helps keep heat in during the winter and out during the summer. Gas filling is available for all types of IG units. Gas filling is a low-cost procedure which provides a major improvement in an IGU's thermal performance. This service is available for all types of IG unit.

Integral Blinds

These blinds are sealed within a double-glazed unit. Once sealed, the blinds remain dirt and dust-free as they are completely protected from external contaminants.

As a result, your blinds require no cleaning, appear brand new and are protected from damage unlike traditional blind systems. The integral blinds are operated (raised, lowered and tilted) by the use of a built-in magnetic system.

This clever design means that the airtight seal of the double-glazed unit is never compromised. The blinds can also be connected to an electrical supply and operated by remote control.

Internal blinds are covered with a five year failure guarantee.
